Genuine Traditional and contemporary iconography

Marie James started iconography classes with Anna Prifti in 2011 after she retired from the workforce. Her interest in icons started after reading some Russian literature in her youth, and this interest grew following an overseas trip in 1979.

She now thoroughly enjoys investigating the history of icons, learning about their writing and the consequent viewing of icons, which were created throughout the ages to the modern period.

During the 2013 group’s exhibition, Marie, who is a descendant of Anglo-Celtic heritage, submitted seventeen icons of saints from the period covered by the ancient British and Celtic Orthodox tradition (i.e. the Western Church).

The richness of the expression of the Christian faith through icons and the connection with others who are interested in Byzantine iconography is an important part of life for Marie.
